Southern California is known for having the best climate in the country, with beautiful beaches to match. San Diego is a popular vacation destination because of its many attractions, as well as a wide variety of beaches along the coast. Whether you like to sunbathe or surf, California certainly has a beach for you.
Coronado Municipal Beach: People from all over the country flock to Coronado's white and gleaming shores throughout the year. The long stretch of beach is rarely crowded due to its size, and there is even a dog beach at the northern end of the island. Famed Hotel del Coronado abuts the sand, while quaint Coronado Village is only a few short blocks away. There is generally ample street parking, and if you are lucky you might even see dolphins frolicking in the waves offshore.
Pacific Beach: For those of you who enjoy a livelier scene, Pacific Beach might be the place for you. There are plenty of bars and restaurants along the main streets of Grand and Garnet, as well as a great spot for fishing on the end of Crystal Pier. Plenty of people enjoy biking, jogging, and skating along the cement boardwalk down the to Mission Beach Jetty at the end of the peninsula.
La Jolla Shores Cove: If you are looking for a beautiful view, La Jolla is the place to go. There are plenty of different beach spots in La Jolla, but the Cove is a place you simply cannot miss. There is a spot for kayaking, snorkeling, and shallow diving, as well as a grassy knoll for picnics, and room to lie out in the sand.
Ocean Beach: One of the oldest beach towns in San Diego, this area still has the San Diego hippie feel that most areas have lost. If you are looking for a down to earth place to spend the day, and you do not mind loiterers and solicitors, Ocean Beach is the place for you.
San Elijo State Beach: For a surfer's paradise, head up the coast a little way to San Elijo State Beach. Just between Solana Beach and Encinitas in Cardiff by the Sea, this beach is a favorite among local surfers and sunbathers, as well as tourists throughout the summer months.
