The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty is one of the most popular of all New York attractions and no trip to the Big Apple is complete without a visit to this iconic structure.
The Statue of Liberty, officially called Liberty Enlightening the World, was constructed from bronze and was given to the United States by France in 1885 as a symbol of freedom and to mark the centenary of America's Declaration of Independence.
Standing at Liberty Island, in the mouth of the Hudson River in the New York Harbor, it welcomes visitors as it once did for the thousands of immigrants who arrived in New York by boat. The Statue of Liberty has come to symbolize freedom, independence and American values and is an attraction not to be missed by anyone visiting New York.

Empire State Building

The Empire State Building is possibly the most famous skyscraper in the world and one of the greatest New York attractions. It's been in numerous Hollywood blockbusters and a defining symbol of the city. It was opened on 1 May 1931 and is a must-see for any visitor to New York City - just ask any of the 10,000 to 20,000 people who visit the building every day.

The observatory, located on the 86th floor, 1,050 feet (320 meters) above the city's busy streets, provides an unsurpassable view of New York City. It offers panoramic views from within a glass enclosed pavilion and from the surrounding open air promenade.
The building offers a variety of attractions for visitors; observatory tours 365 days per year, day and night, rain or shine provider breathtaking views of Manhattan and beyond. There are also, two restaurants, a sushi bar, three coffee shops, a drug store, a Hallmark card shop, a post office and two banks as well as the famous New York SKYRIDE virtual-reality movie theater and various art exhibits.

Times Square

Times Square is not really a square, it's more of a district, bordered by 6th Avenue and 9th Avenue and by 39th and 52nd Streets, and is one of the greatest New York attractions. Originally it was called Longacre Square, but in 1904, when the New York Times Company moved there, it took on the name we all know today. Shortly thereafter, in 1907, Times Square began its New Year's Eve tradition, securing the area's place in history.

Madison Square Gardens

New York City's Madison Square Garden is sometimes called "The Most Famous Arena in the World". It is a 20,000-seat arena located atop the city's Pennsylvania Station on 7th Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets. Built in 1968, the current arena is the fourth in a line of Madison Square Gardens; the facility is home to the New York Knicks and New York Liberty basketball teams and the New York Rangers hockey team. In addition, the arena hosts over 600 events per year, including concerts, conventions, award shows, the NBA draft, and the Ringling Bros Barnum Bailey Circus.

United Nations HQ

The United Nations Headquarters is located on an 18-acre site along the East River in New York City. The building, opened in 1951, was instantly popular with tourists and continues to be one of the most popular destinations in New York City.

American Museum of Natural History

Located on New York City's upper west side, the American Museum of Natural history continues to be one of the world's most important natural history collections and research facilities. It is a delight for guests young and old, and the sheer volume of exhibits means there's always something new to see.

Central Park

Central Park is Manhattan's back garden - in a city of high-rise apartments with a dense population, this 843-acre oasis is a place to take a walk, read a book, attend a concert, and much, much more. Over 25 million people visit the park each year, making it the most visited of any park in the United States. In addition to the vast Great Lawn and other green spaces, the park boasts several artificial lakes, two ice-skating rinks, miles of hiking and bike trails, a zoo, a wildlife sanctuary and several children's playparks.

Wall Street

Wall Street, a narrow street in lower Manhattan between Broadway and the East River, was the first permanent home of the New York Stock Exchange. It was also the one-time headquarters for all of the major banks and brokerage houses in the United States. While the brokerages have since moved to other parts of New York's financial district, New Jersey, and Connecticut, the term, "Wall Street" is still synonymous with the US financial markets.

Brooklyn Bridge

Probably one of the most recognizable landmarks in New York City, the Brooklyn Bridge is the oldest suspension bridge in the United States and at 6016-feet long, one of the longest too. When it opened in 1883, after being under construction for almost 14 years, it was the world's longest suspension bridge. It spans over the East River and links New York's Manhattan and Brooklyn districts.
Over the years, the traffic across the Brooklyn Bridge has included horses, trolleys, elevated trains, and streetcars as well as pedestrians and automobiles but these days just cars, cyclists, and pedestrians are permitted.

Carnegie Hall

This beautiful and acoustically perfect concert hall, or more accurately, three concert halls, has been the host of over 50,000 events in its long history. Today it is completely restored and as beautiful as ever, Carnegie Hall welcomes visitors to three concert stages, a museum, and fascinating archives. In addition to watching performances, visitors to Carnegie Hall may tour the facility on guided tours, which include back stage, dressing rooms, and rehearsal halls.

Top Ghost Travel Places to Go

When you mention travel, the first thing that enters your mind are the white sand beaches, majestic mountain views or adventure places like the Amazon jungle or the Sahara desert. But have you ever heard of ghost travel packages, haunted travel, horror travel or spooky haunted house? These tour packages are not for the faint of heart cause most of them are for real. Here are some of the best places to go to satisfy one's thrill seeking nerves.

Transylvania, Romania " Land of the blood sucking vampires." This is on top of my list because the place and atmosphere alone is enough to send chills down my spine. There you can find the eerie castle of Vlad Tepes, the blood thirsty Romanian prince used as an inspiration by Bram Stoker to fictionalize Count Dracula. Not only that, with the snow capped mountain range coupled with the medieval setting, the howling of wolves and foggy nights, it would be hard to imagine someone walking alone at night. It's the ultimate ghost travel experience you can find.
Next on my list is the famous witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts wherein 19 women were sent to the gallows in 1692. It is believed that there are lots of haunted houses there. Haunted travel includes a stroll down the old cemetery and the famous eerie Witch house. Halloween is celebrated with ghost tours and costume balls. It is believed that some of the hanged women are not witches and that's the reason why they are still there seeking for justice.
The streets of London. This capital of England is not all glamor and festive. Experience the dark side of horror travel as you take a stroll down White Chapel, scene of the heinous crimes of Jack the Ripper or some of the old haunted churches and chapels and the famous Tower of London wherein many people including royals were mercilessly executed. It is believed that the spirits are still wandering up to this day.
The Bermuda Triangle also known as the Devil's Triangle, is a different spooky travel package. The sea is right between Puerto Rico, Bermuda and Miami forming a triangle. Several disappearances were recorded including the vanishing of ships, fighter planes and many more. I wonder if there are tours available in this place unless tour operators are willing to risk the lives of their personnel, equipment and boats.

These are just few of the places preferred by some thrill seeking persons who are not contented with the usual vacation trips. There are actually no shortages of spooky haunted houses, ghost travel, haunted travel or whatever you may call it. The list goes on. There's no need to go to the places I mentioned. Try spending the night alone in your nearby cemetery and surely you will get some adrenaline rush. And besides, why bother? Who knows you might get your thrill right in your own backyard.

Whistler Blackcomb

In February 2008, Danis, Anna, Nam and myself travel to beautiful British Columbia, Canada for an awesome weekend of snowboarding. A little info about the rock formation on top of Whistler Mountain: For centuries, the Inuit people of Canada's Arctic stacked rock in human form to create the inukshuk, a steadfast guidepost that provided direction across the vast horizons of the North. Over time, the inukshuk has become a symbol of hope and friendship, an eternal expression of the hospitality of a nation that warmly welcomes the people of the world with open arms every day. The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games emblem is a contemporary interpretation of the inukshuk. It is called Ilanaaq which is the Inuktitut word for friend. This is the symbol of Canada's Games -- our friend who will help us greet the world in 2010. -- www.vancouver2010.com Songs: Wake by Linkin Park Leave Out All The Rest by Linkin Park

Guanajuato, Mexico Tourist Season 2008

In the middle of the night when the bombing (Day of the Dead fireworks) began and I was startled awake by my three-foot, straight-up jump out of bed, I suddenly remembered I had forgotten to write my annual article about this year's Guanajuato Tourist Season! In case you don't know, I have been writing a special-interest article each year about the Gringo Invasion of Guanajuato. These invaders are called tourists. More specifically, these conquering travelers are commonly known in Guanajuato as Gringo Tourists. And to be even more scientific about it, Gringo is the Genus and not the breed of Tourists.

The word Genus, according to Webster means, "a class, kind, or group marked by common characteristics or by one common characteristic."

What I am talking about is the specific Species or Breed of Tourists taught in Tourism School or the science of Touristology called The American Gringo Tourist. To understand this better, think of the dog breed, The Great Dane. It is a domestic dog. Think also of the Chihuahua that also is a domestic dog. However, it doesn't take a genius to see the vast and magnificent difference between the two. The same goes with your ordinary Canadian, European, Australian, and Oriental Tourists. All are tourists but when you compare them with The American Gringo Tourist, the differences are, well, vast to say the least.

To simplify, think of Americans as a specific breed of tourist.

What I have done in years past is try to apply very carefully and with much forethought the scientific principles of ethnology - a science that deals with the division of human beings into races and their origins, distribution, relations, and characteristics (Thank-you Mr. Webster).

In doing so I would venture out daily into the wild and wooly wilderness of tourist traps like sidewalk cafes, boutiques, churches, park benches, and observe and record how The American Tourist acts. My results? Startling!

In past articles I would observe and record things like shrieking harpies (always females followed subserviently by obedient males) screaming in front of sidewalk cafes, "I know you speak English and are pretending you don't." This was by far the most common thing observed and recorded.

Next, I would see entire groups of this most common Breed of Gringo eating at small, out-of-the-way eateries getting so bombed on booze that entire groups of American Gringos would become falling-down drunk. There would always be someone in those groups, usually a male, who would find the brains God gave him to try and flag a cab. However, this blasted soul would soon have an American Gringo lapse and begin cursing wilding and giving the finger to each cab that passed him, already occupied with a fare, for not stopping for his "Here I am...American Tourist...HEAR ME ROAR!"

Finally, I would sit in the plazas and listen to loud bellowings come out of restaurants, "I ordered a taco!" or "You call this a taco?" or "Don't you have Taco Bell here?" It always was loud protestations about tacos.

I would make many minor observations too. Mostly these were carefully scribbled notes of how American Tourists would pitch public fits over where or what to eat, where to go next, or wailings to the point of almost swooning when they exited their hotels to discover that they could not find anyone who spoke English. Sometimes I could hear them ask one another, "Is everyone here really Mexican?"

These folks would do one of two things but never both. They would either run back to their hotels and in under three minutes come back out with packed bags to head to the airport for Puerto Vallarta, or they would join the shrieking harpies' battle cry (see above).

Well, I am happy as a peach that what I have to report for Guanajuato, Mexico's 2008 Tourist Season is none of the above.

That's right! Though it appears there were more tourists than ever, even of the American Gringo Breed, that showed up in town this year, we saw none of the behavior that spurred the naming of American Gringos as The Ugly American! Isn't that swell?

This year, the difference seems overwhelmingly to be that they hired English-Speaking Mexicans to take them by the hand all over the city. It also appears that the tour guides made a better effort than before to advertise their services and unbelievably, the American Gringos took them up on their offers to show them a good time.

Everywhere I looked I saw happy-faced American Gringos frolicking up and down the streets of Guanajuato holding hands with their bilingual tour guides and all merrily singing Canta no Llores.

Is this a good omen of many more Tourist Seasons to come? I don't know. But, as always, I will be here to watch and record from park benches, small cafes, small darkened corners in bars and grills, surreptitiously making notes for the Guanajuato Tourist Season 2009.

When I Land, How Much Longer is My Reservation Valid For?

Whenever you fly and you want to have travel prepared for you when you arrive, you should call a taxi company and arrange for a car to be waiting for you for when you get to your destination. Taxi services are happy to take reservations for airport pickups; however, they can't wait around for too long a period of time if you are not there to claim your cab within a reasonable waiting period.

Taxi drivers are only making money if they have someone in the car, so they certainly don't want to have to stand around waiting for people longer than they have to. Usually, they will allow for a certain amount of leeway, such as ten minutes, or a bit more, because they do realize that there are a number of things which can slow people down when they are traveling into an airport.

Since you will quickly realize that a cab won't wait an unusual amount of time for you after your appointed pickup time, you should take steps to make sure that they are going to still be there when you finally get to the front of the terminal. The best way to do this is to book your cab to pick you up after the time your flight lands, not your scheduled arrival time, as no one is ever ready to go right at the time the flight is scheduled to land.

Remember to allow more time when guessing a good time to book a cab based on the conditions of your flight. If you're checking bags, be sure to allow more time. Also, if you're flying internationally and are going to have to clear customs, you also want to make sure to allow for more time for that.

The other thing that you can do is to get the phone number of either your driver's cab or the dispatch office and have it handy when you land. That way, if something happens that is going to delay you, you can be sure to get in touch with them right away and ask them to hold the car for you, or to send another one later if it looks like it's going to be a long period of time. If the driver does wait extra long for you, be sure that you tip them more than normal, as their income for the day will have been hurt by the time they spent waiting for you.

Discount Cigarettes Online

Recent years have seen a hefty rise in cigarette prices. The major reason is the heavy tax imposed on cigarettes by various states in the US. Another reason for the rising price is the series of multibillion dollar suits filed against tobacco manufacturers. Most smokers find discount cigarettes an easy to avoid the impact of taxes.

Online discount cigarettes has become a catchphrase among the patrons of premium brands such as Marlboro, Newport, Doral, Parliament, Camel and Barclay. With the advent of discount cigarettes, one can now enjoy their favorite brand at a much lower cost. Websites displaying the "discount cigarettes online" tag offer a variety of premium and generic cigarette brands at heavily discounted prices, owing to the tax exemption that online sales enjoy. However, "discount cigarettes online" websites desist from supplying cigarettes to some states because of the strict laws that have been applied to online sales.

Online retailers who advertise "discount cigarettes online" generally operate from states that impose lower taxes on cigarettes. They can afford to supply the goods at much lower prices. Businessmen located in reserved Indian lands, where federal tax laws do not apply, also manage "Discount cigarettes online" websites. A large portion of the online sales originate from Indian reserved lands, especially the Seneca lands. A recent study indicates sales from Seneca lands amount to almost $300 million a year.

Websites sporting the "Discount Cigarettes Online" title usually contain a note ensuring complete security of the buyer's personal information. Most buyers are apprehensive of the possibility of federal or state agencies tracking them down to pay taxes. However, in most cases, local taxes do not apply to online sales. Moreover, the cigarettes ordered through a website are usually delivered through mail, which attracts no tax.

Previously, significant others had to wait for approval before moving to Canada.

 Becoming a permanent resident means that now you have to wait less time before applying for Canadian citizenship. To become a citizen must have lived in the country for at least three of the four years before applying for citizenship. You can also become a citizen of Canada, without giving up citizenship in their country. Remember that theseThe topics are subject to change.

In the next section of this report, I would like more about how the system pass-mark so you'll understand the chances of a successful outcome of some twenty works that goes on talking.

Top Cyprus Travel Information Tips

After working hard all year most people look forward to a couple of weeks in the sun or the chance to visit some places of interest. Many of these lucky tourist will be visiting the beautiful Mediterranean Island paradise of Cyprus. Travel information and some useful tips from folks who have been there and done that could make your Cyprus holiday all the more memorable so read on. Often as not people book a holiday through the travel agent relying on them to get everything right. All without knowing anything about the places to go or where their accommodation is in relation to the center of the resort. Invaluble Cyprus can travel information especially if you visit the island for the first time

Visitors increasingly in Cyprus are separated booking flights, accommodation and airport transfers also their own organization. The growth of online reservations via the Internet provides access for travelers to compare prices for the immediateeverything needed to build their own holiday package. Cyprus flights can be booked either through charter companies or even using the growing number of scheduled operators. In fact it often pays to book direct with the airline and cut out the middle man or booking agent. Flying to Cyprus has never been easier with both charter and scheduled flights leaving most of the major U.K. airports two to three times every week. If you are prepared to travel a few extra miles to your departure The airport can make big savings on the flight to Cyprus.

There are two main airports in Cyprus and choose the wrong one could get at least a couple of hours on the transfer time so be sure to get it right. The western coast of Paphos was ideal for the transfer itself in Paphos, Limassol and the capital Nicosia. The smaller towns of Polis and Pissouri this part of southern Cyprus, but so be sure not to fly tip located in Paphos. Larnacaairport is situated on the East coast of the Island just outside of the resort town of Larnaca itself. From here you will gain easy access to all the resorts and towns right up to Protaras using the modern coastal motorway. Agia Napa, Pernera and Kapparis are all less than an hours drive away from Larnaca airport which is great news after a five hour flight.

Ask anyone for Cyprus travel information and they will nearly always advise you to hire a car. It's the best way to get around the island, if you want the additional cost of taxis. There are buses, but they do not use much, if they are on the main road and have only run between major cities. You can kill two birds with one stone, however, if you mark your car in Cyprus online and taking them to the airport. The average taxi cyp30.00 works anyway so logical that immediate savings of cyp60.00 if the car to the airport at the end of your holiday. It 'alsoadvisable to use a company that has cars at the airport rather than the agents who offer to pick you up and drop you off. Even though their fee is all in the total price you are at their mercy when its time to leave for the airport. Not so good if you arrive at the check in just after the coaches unload and spend an hour queuing.

Another useful item of Cyprus travel information concerns the whole business of hire cars and some of the common mistakes holiday makers tend to make. Cyprus is hot! O.K. you knew that already but will you remember when it comes to selecting your Cyprus rental car? You would be surprised how many people forget to specify air conditioning when they book their car hire on line. They set off from the airport towards their accommodation, realize just how hot it is and start feverishly stabbing at all the buttons on the dashboard. Meanwhile the inside of the car is beginning to resemble a mobile sauna and the wife is giving them some serious ear ache. Ah well, at least the windows all wind down to let in plenty of that hot Cyprus air and they can always park in the shade. Those trendy jeeps and cabriolets look great too but you won't look to good when the sun has burnt your scalp off. Choose air con and drop the hood in the evenings that way you get the best of both worlds. Enjoy your holidays and we hope you are able to make good use of this Cyprus travel information.

Top Family Vacation Destinations for 2007

When you are looking for a family vacation destination, it is necessary to consider the children. A family vacation is not going to be enjoyable unless it is enjoyable for them as well. The perfect spot would have activities that appeal to all ages. There are many places that would fit this bill, but there is nothing better to keep children happy on vacation than water. The beach is a place for all ages. The little ones can play in the sand and the teenagers can seek romance while the parents soak up the sun and sip those little drinks with umbrellas. Here is my short list for the top family vacations spots, and they all have plenty of beaches available.

The top of the list has to be Florida. It is not far away and fairly easy to reach from the East coast of the United States. It has beaches up and down both sides of the state. The Orlando area has some of the top children's attractions anywhere in the world with Disney World, The Epcot Center and Universal Studios. There are an endless number of things to do and places to go in Florida, and they speak English and use American money. There is really no downside to it. The weather is almost always going to be nice, and although you can find luxury enough to suit the most extravagant taste, you can also find economy as well.

If you are thinking of leaving the country, Jamaica is the second choice. Jamaica is considered to be the most beautiful of all the Caribbean Islands. It is all very family oriented. Most of the major resorts there are very children friendly. Supervised children's activities and kid's meals are very common. Family discounts are available in many places as well. Jamaica is an island, so there are plenty of beaches here also. A few of the resorts on Jamaica even offer a "vacation nanny", so that you can get a little time also.

To add a little balance to the list, we need a west coast resort area. Many people would suggest Hawaii as the ideal place for a family vacation, and that is hard to argue with. Hawaii is also an island, and there is certainly plenty to do there. The only problem with Hawaii is that it is quite a distance away, and getting there is often a bit expensive. My choice would be Cabo San Lucas located at the very southern tip of Baja California. This resort area sits where the Bay of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean meet and it is a little bit of paradise that is within easy reach of the western states of the United States. Cabo San Lucas vacation rentals can be found to meet any taste and budget. Many celebrities including Hollywood stars maintain Cabo San Lucas condominiums for their get away vacations, but you do not have to be rich or famous to enjoy this pristine and unspoiled resort area.
