Entry from: Ruteng, Indonesia Entry Title: "Ruteng" Entry: "Arrived in the city of Ruteng in Flores yesterday evening. Got a room in the Rima hotel which looks a little bit like a swiss cottage. The walls seem to be so thin, that you think the other people are in your bathroom or will break through the ceiling at any moment. For 100000rp it's ok, although I should've taken the room for 75000rp with the toilet and shower outside. But after that boattrip I really wanted a room with a shower although the water here is damn cold. Ruteng is at around 1500m surrounded by an active vulcano. The city is not really beautiful, but the surrounding rice terasses are worth a view. I took a long walk round the countryside, up a hill where after every turn a holy picture was showing the story of Jesus carrying the cross up until he was taken off the cross (at the top of the hill). On the top there's a big shrine showing a status of Maria. After that I went looking for a waterfall which was supposed to be 6km further down the road. I got to see some spectacular views of the rice fields and indonesian dschungle and all the locals and kiddies coming up saying "Hello Mister" and being really astonished when I answered in Baha Indonesia. Went cross country through the dschungle and open fields until a bemo (bus) picked ...
