Read Thai Exercise (watch the Rapid 13 Letters assignment first)

OK, so you've learnt to recognize the top 13 letters... Do you want to see how much you can already read? Work through this exercise made up of words using the letters you learnt in the demonstration lesson. If you haven't followed the lesson yet (13 letters in ten minutes) then watch this video first: www.youtube.com If it worked for you then please visit www.learnthaionline.com to download the self-study e-book. You'll learn another dozen letters - for free - in less than an hour. To become fully literate in Thai, simply purchase an access code and work through the course - either in 2-3 half days, or one page a day over two months. Along the way, you learn to speak Thai correctly, and pick up a vocabulary of arond 400 Thai words through the same visual story association methods, without any memorization required. Once you can read (albeit slowly at first), you will immediately absorb Thai from your surroundings without any deliberate effort. The more you read, the easier it gets, and the more you will be able to speak and understand Thai. Being able to communicate in Thai is a great way of making good friends and deep relationships with Thai people. It also makes living and working in Thailand so much more fun (especially if you are a regular visitor to Thailand). Not to mention, it's a lot cheaper to live where the 'real' Thai people are, away from the 'expat' biospheres... If you haven't already watched the introduction to the 'Rapid' system, you can watch it here ...

Top Trends in Cruise Travel

Cruise lines have their own distinct personalities and ships that reflect them, but there are some definite trends that are spreading across the fleets within the cruise industry.

More homeport cruising

Being able to drive to a cruise offers great convenience, not to mention tremendous cost savings by not having to buy airline tickets. All total, there are some 30 close-to-home departures in the United States and Canada. With so many ships in these close-in markets, in 2010 the competition for your cruise dollar will be fierce.

Bigger cruise ships

Cruise lines have gotten the message from travelers and they are delivering more for 2010 - more space, more options, and more fun on the largest cruise ships ever to hit the high seas. Larger ships mean a wider variety of features and amenities from which to choose.

Cruise ship makeovers

The refurbishment of the older ships makes sense for cruise lines, since most aren't investing huge sums of money to build newer vessels. By "remodeling" what they already own they can add all of the features of the new 'mega-builds', which many cruisers appreciate. Older ships are emerging from their new makeovers with new balconies, improved pool areas, updated children and teen areas, more dining venues, and larger spa facilities.

Greener cruise ships

Cruise lines are taking advantage of the latest environmental technology to reduce their carbon footprint. A number of lines have launched initiatives including advanced wastewater purification, shore power, LED lighting, solar power and products made from recycled materials.

More adults-only areas

A number of cruise lines are increasingly catering to passengers seeking al fresco tranquility with the introduction of quiet, adults-only areas on their ships. These areas are usually in quieter parts of the ship and offer relaxation with abundant plush loungers and access to spa treatments, Jacuzzis and bar service.

More enrichment

Cruise lines continue to offer more and more sophisticated programming. Many cruise lines offer informative shipboard talks by famous lecturers on a variety of topics. Additionally, a number of premium and luxury cruise lines also invite arts and culture specialists to lead educational programs. Lectures aside, there are abundant enrichment offerings onboard and the list of options keeps getting bigger. Cruise travelers can take classes in languages, cooking, Web design, advanced digital photography, art history, maritime history, calligraphy, even pottery. There are even active enrichment programs like dance classes and theater.

More theme cruises

Are you a baseball fanatic, into politics, crazy about rock or jazz music? Believe it or not, you can indulge these passions - and a host of others - on a cruise vacation. Theme cruises are growing in popularity as they provide an entertaining and enriching venue for guests sharing the same interests. Best of all, the shared exuberance fosters an easy spirit of camaraderie, making for a great cruise vacation and sometimes lifelong friendships.

More wellness options

Cruise lines are chasing the fitness trend and have incorporated more comprehensive fitness options into their shipboard offerings, including larger pools, and gyms with state-of-the-art equipment that offer popular workout programs like aerobics, Pilates, circuit training and yoga.

Of course all the activities are balanced by the total relaxation guests find in modern shipboard spas. New indulgences include such treatments as an bamboo massage, Thai poultice massage, exotic coconut rub, body wraps, and acupuncture, to name a few. These are just some of the many therapeutic options available should you wish to turn your cruise vacation into a complete health makeover at sea.

More epicurean delights

While the typical cruise ship remains a vessel of culinary indulgence fueled by 24/7 buffets, pizza stands, and ice cream parlors around every corner, many cruise lines have added more gourmet fare for the more sophisticated palate. Most lines offer alternative dining venues where, for an additional fee, guests can indulge in premium fare with many of the menus designed by famous chefs.

With all the new ships, new onboard amenities, educational, health, exercise, and epicurean offerings it's clear that cruise lines are working hard to make the cruise vacation experience the best it can be. And, that will surely make guests want to come back for more.

The Ultimate Disney World Savings Guide 2010 Review - Must Read

If you have heard of The Ultimate Disney World Savings Guide 2010 review or seen it on the news you might be wondering if it is really worth it to purchase this guide. I began planning my Disney vacation about 4 months ago, and decided to purchase the Ultimate Disney World Savings Guide 2010 to help me plan my vacation.

By purchasing this guide I was hoping to get discounts on my hotel, food, and admission. I did not need a plane since I live in Florida, I would be driving to Disney. After putting The Ultimate Disney World Savings Guide 2010 to the test, this is what I found.

My first step was to get a hotel. We did not want to spend too much on this as we figured we were mostly going to be in the theme park or out eating. After using some tips that I learned from reading The Ultimate Disney World Savings Guide 2010, I was able to get a Disney hotel on the Disney world property at an extremely discounted rate. The best part about it is, that since I was on the Disney property I did not have to pay for parking when we went to Disney since I was already at their property, and we knew how to get a free shuttle to the theme park, so we didn't even have to walk.

These were all great tips which I learned from reading The Ultimate Disney World Savings Guide 2010.

Our next goal was to try to get discounted theme park tickets. After applying the secrets we learned from the Ultimate Disney World Savings Guide 2010 I was able to get single day admission tickets for $18 less and the two day passes for $32 less. This was pretty exciting since we were a group of 6. We ended up saving $192, just on tickets.

Lastly was the issue of food. Since we were a group of 6, which 3 were children we knew food would be expensive. But after reading some of the secrets on The Ultimate Disney World Savings Guide 2010, we ended up paying a lot less than expected. We ended up buying meal plans, which would allow us to have various meals throughout the day at a fraction of the price it would cost individually. There are other options discussed in the book, but we felt this was the best for us. At the end of the day we were all full and were able to save tons of money.

I am truly grateful that I had read this guide. It allowed my family & I to save over $1,000 all while enjoying everything Disney has to offer. I am looking forward to returning to Disney so we can enjoy this magical place again. If you are planning a trip to Disney anytime soon, then I recommend you try The Ultimate Disney World Savings Guide 2010 so you can learn about all the savings available as I have.

(PACQUIAO VS.MARGARITO) PACQUIAO TRAINING GETTING THERE

Pacquiao's training right on schedule, says adviser October 13, 2010 21:06:52 Allaying fears that everything is not going fine in Manny Pacquiao's high-altitude training camp in Baguio City, Michael Koncz, one of the closest advisers of the boxing champion, assured that the `Pacman' is very much in focus for his Nov. 13 title date with Antonio Margarito of Mexico. "On Manny's behalf, there is nothing to worry about," Koncz said. "He's right on schedule and he's extremely motivated." Koncz had to make the guarantee amidst great concerns that the 31-year-old Pacquiao has been incautious in training for a fight he considers time and again, as one of the toughest in his boxing career. Frequent playing of basketball at night and missed early morning road works depicted the early part of Pacquiao's training in the Baguio highlands. Likewise, he had to break camp and travel back to Manila and honor a commitment as special guest during a military sports competition in Camp Crame as well as participate in a huge charity run aimed at the rehabilitation of the Pasig River. The boxing icon also skipped training for a day after contracting a mild cold. Koncz did acknowledge the hectic schedule Pacquiao had in his capacity as boxer, celebrity and congressman from the lone district of Sarangani. But at the same time, he stressed that the world's top pound-for-pound fighter has never been remiss preparing for his bid to win a record eighth world title exactly a month from now. "Manny is ...

Top 6 Party Travel Destinations

I've been working in the travel industry for the past 6 years and have been traveling/partying pretty much all of my life. You can pretty much call me an expert on the subject. I have been all over the world and consider the following destinations/parties the wildest and best I have been a part of. 1). Carnival in Salvador, Bahia Brazil 2.) Summer in Ibiza 3.) New Years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 4.) Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain 5.) National Beauty Pageant Week in Cartagena, Colombia 6.) Summer in Mykonos, Greece

1. Carnival in Salvador, Bahia Brazil
Brazilians consider Salvador, Bahia as the best and most fun Carnival in the country. The Guinness Book of World Records considers Carnival in Salvador as the biggest street party in the world. Millions of people hit the streets and it's literally 5 days of chaotic fun. I've been traveling to Carnival in Salvador for the past 6 years. It's definitely the craziest party I have been to. Just imagine millions of people on the streets just going crazy with some of the hottest bands from Brazil playing in the background. It's also singles paradise as one of the main themes during Salvador is "Solteiro em Salvador" meaning everyone is single in Salvador. If you are looking to experience Brazil Carnival look into Carnival in Salvador, Bahia especially if you are looking for a Wild and Crazy time.

2. Summer in Ibiza, Spain
Ibiza is the party capital of the world! It's the perfect combination of great weather, beautiful people, incredible beaches, and the hippest, most sophisticated nightlife in the world. If you love electronic/house music, it is definitely the can't miss destination of the summer as the best DJ's in the world make Ibiza their home from the End of May until the End of September - any other time most of the clubs in Ibiza are closed (Pacha is the only club open all year). I've been going to Ibiza for the past 4 years and you definitely have to go VIP and hit Pacha, Amnesia, Privilege & Space. Drinks are extremely expensive (about 10 - 20 euros per drink), but if you get VIP and do bottle service, you will have your own table and spend just about as much. Depending on the party, bottle service can be as low as 150 euros per person to 300. Clubs get extremely packed during the summer and at some parties you can barely move around. If you are traveling there, you might as well spend a little more and enjoy it, rather than feel like a sardine. I personally enjoy traveling to Ibiza in July (All major DJs are there and it's not as hectic as August) or September (Closing parties are incredible). August is the busiest time of the year and I try to avoid it as the hotels raise prices and the clubs are overly packed.

3. New Years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
New Years in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is one of the most amazing cities in the world and one of my favorite travel destinations. Its annual New Year's Eve extravaganza puts all new year's celebrations to shame. Millions pack the city for an all-night festival of music, food, and fun, punctuated by spectacular fireworks. From mind-blowing scenery and incredible beaches to wild nightlife and beautiful people, Rio de Janeiro will make your New Years an unforgettable experience. The main attraction in Rio de Janeiro for New Years is watching the fireworks on Copacabana Beach. The fireworks are amazing, but I've actually had a better time going to the exclusive parties all over the city. The beach can get a little sketchy and it is fun don't get me wrong, but the best thing about Rio de Janeiro are the people (The Cariocas) and being at an exclusive party is the way to go because you don't have to worry about anything. All you have to worry about is having a great time and ringing in the new year. I definitely recommend making your travel plans early as the hotels and flights sell out by mid November.

4. Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain aka San Fermin Festival
The Running of the Bulls is held every year between July 6th and 17th. It is one of the world's craziest and wildest festivals where people run through the streets of the medieval city with actual live wild bulls! Every year over one million party-goers flock to Pamplona and party day and night drinking Sangria, eating delicious tapas and for the brave ones - run for their lives in front of angry bulls! The running of the bulls is an adrenaline rush, but it literally only lasts about 5 - 10 minutes and is at 8am every morning. What a lot of people do and what I recommend doing when running with the bulls is to party during the day, get some rest at night and then wake up early to run with the bulls. After you have run with the bulls, you can focus on partying. The pubs and streets are literally filled with people day and night.

5. National Beauty Pageant Week in Cartagena, Colombia
Cartagena is the home of Colombia's National Beauty Pageant, one of the country's hottest events of the year. The most beautiful women from all over the country compete to be crowned Miss Colombia. The event is usually held the 2nd week in November. That week is absolutely nuts as the city erupts in Exclusive Parties, Parades, Beach Events, and the Best Nightlife in the country. My favorite event during this week is called "The Desfile de Balleneras". It takes place in the Bay of Cartagena as marines escort the Beauty Contestants in small boats throughout the bay. The only way to check out this parade is on boat. 100s of boats line up to check out the parade, but it's more about the party than the beauty contestants. People blast their music, have water balloon fights, move from boat to boat and party like it's 1999.

6. Mykonos, Greece in the Summer
Mykonos is Greece's party island during the summer. If you want to party for 24 hours straight, you can do it in Mykonos - hit the beach parties during the day, head to Mykonos Town to watch the sunset, have dinner and party at night and if you want to keep on partying there are several options for after hour spots that open at 3:00AM and go through the morning/afternoon hours. As far as Mykonos partiers - celebrities, politicians, beautiful people and ordinary mortals all flock here to see and be seen at the glitzy "anything goes" clubs for which the island is world famous for. During the summer all the clubs/bars will be packed. Peak season to go to Mykonos is end of June through mid September.

All of the destinations/parties above are a One in A Lifetime Experience. If you want to have an incredible time, I recommend pre-booking everything in advance as these events sell out quickly. I also recommend going through an expert travel company for these events like Tours Gone Wild. They do trips like this year after year and have the connections to make sure you have a great time. All you literally have to do is call them, book your trip, show up and have a good time.

Most Dangerous Countries 2010

"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."

While this famous quote from St. Augustine is quite inspiring, not all pages of the world's book should be approached in the same manner. In some cases, including the countries included in this list, maybe the pages should be skipped over. While I am never a fan of skipping pages, with 195 countries in the world, I feel I could take up more than my lifetime with 190 of them.

Various methods could be employed to undertake the task of compiling a list of the World's Most Dangerous Countries. While many first look to murder rates, in this list I have incorporated total crime, or crime you are actually likely to encounter if you choose (unwisely) to visit any of the countries outlined below. You have been warned.

1) Afghanistan.
Why go there? Other than being part of military service, you would be hard pressed to find any draw to visit Afghanistan. The country is the focus of a war. A WAR. Landmines scatter the dusty desert which doubles as roads. The complete lack of infrastructure borders on embarrassing. Bombings are regular, especially around Embassies, another con for any would-be traveler. A statement by the US FBI summarizes the country well: "Travel in all areas of Afghanistan is unsafe due to military operations, landmines, banditry, armed rivalry among political and tribal groups, and the possibility of terrorist attacks, including attacks using vehicular or other improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The security environment remains volatile and unpredictable." There is absolutely no reason to travel to this country willingly. Period.

2) Venezuela.
Can one person out of 28 million influence a country to the extent that they end up on this list? Yes they can, and Hugo Chavez does exactly that for Venezuela. This leader openly hates almost every country in the world, and makes sure you know it. The outspoken leader uses his countries oil wealth to influence weaker countries, and in the process, successfully makes an enemy of almost every other world power. Combined with the fact the country ranks #2 on the "List of countries by intentional homicide rate" produced by the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development, the country is not one that you should take the kids for the summer. From personal experience, I have never felt more uncomfortable in a country in my life. My 2009 Venezuela visit made my previous month's visit to Colombia seem like a day in Fort Knox. As one local told me my first day in Venezuela, "Man, they will shoot you for your shoes here....hell, they'll shoot you just from being from the US."

3) Iraq.
As with Afghanistan, why? Insurgent groups remain active throughout Iraq, and the violence is often targeted against foreigners. Roadside attacks remain the most frequent act of violence, with shootings, mortars, and rockets remaining prevalent. Yes, you did read rockets.

4) Haiti.
Even before the recent deadly earthquake in Haiti, it was a disorderly, dangerous country. Violence is a persistent threat in Haiti. The occurrence of kidnappings is among the highest in the world. In recent cases, the kidnappers seem to take no preference to race, age, or gender. First come, first served. Coupled with the damage caused by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake Haiti experienced January 12, 2010, and you've got a sour mixture. Infrastructure suffered serious damage, leaving access to services severely limited. The country is suffering from water, food, shelter, and transportation shortages. Aftershocks from the quake are a real threat, even many months after an earthquake and falling debris could continue to pose a threat while the country rebuilds. The combination of persistent violence and the recent earthquake place Haiti on 2010's Most Dangerous Countries list.

5) Somalia.
A notoriously dangerous country, Somalia experienced a sharp increase in bombings and terrorist activity at the end of 2009 and carrying over into 2010. According to a Travel Warning from the US Department of State, dated December 31, 2009: "Terrorist operatives and armed groups in Somalia have demonstrated their intent and capability to attack air operations at Mogadishu International Airport. Kidnapping, murder, illegal roadblocks, banditry, and other violent incidents and threats to U.S. citizens and other foreigners can occur in many regions. Inter-clan and inter-factional fighting flares up with little or no warning. Unpredictable armed conflicts among rival militias are prevalent in southern Somalia, particularly in and around Mogadishu. This has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Somali nationals and the displacement of nearly one million people." And they have pirates. Real, live, very dangerous pirates, wielding rocket-propelled grenade launchers. True story. Although rocket-propelled grenade launchers do make a great video game weapon, they do not make for the best vacation.

Other countries to leave off the itinerary: Yemen, North Korea, Sierra Leone, Jamaica, Iran, Congo, and any country ending with -stan.

Alternative Travel Exposed

Alternative travel is extremely underrated these days. The majority of people travelling from one major city to another or one country to another would choose to fly rather than use any other method of transport. It is very rare that these individuals actually look into alternative travel methods before booking, and as a result they are missing out on the whole travel experience. On an airplane, you go from one place to another in a matter of hours and only see the clouds. However, if you take the train, boat or road then you will find that you experience far more. The sights you see can be simply amazing and enhance your trip, as well as the whole trip working out to be cheaper. There are many reasons for alternative travel though, and below are just a few:

o The freedom to do as you please - Once you are on an airplane, there is no getting off until you reach your destination. If you see a place that you want to explore than there is simply no way that you can go and take a closer look. However, if you drive past the place in question, or are indeed on a train, then you can stop and explore until you are ready to move on again.

o The natural world - From the perspective of a car, train or boat, you can see the world around you and fully experience it as you pass through it. Fields, forests, lakes, seas and various other natural ecosystems and environments can provide an eye opening look at the world in which we live that you would never see from the perspective of a plane. Alternative travel at its finest includes the natural world in all of its glory. Just taking the time to take a closer look will enhance your trip considerably.

o The cost - can often cost far less than flying. This is because there are very few taxes associated with car, train or boat travel. However, federal taxes have increased the cost of the only method of non-alternative travel to the point that it is considerably more expensive and now often make up the majority percentage of the overall cost of the trip. It is far cheaper to travel by road or rail as a result.

Although there has been much made of the state of trains and buses in recent years, there has been an effort to improve them and thus people can now travel in more comfort than had previously been possible. Boat travel is fantastic and definitely deserves a second thought. However, in terms of alternative travel, you cannot beat the car. Flying is a great method of travel if you are travelling abroad, but alternative travel should be considered domestically, for the environment and cost if nothing else!

Discover the Best 7 Places to Travel Alone

Some say that traveling alone is the only way to go. Some of the best places to travel alone to are the same as any other place, it's what you do when you get there that matters. The advantages are endless-go where ever you want when you want to, do whatever activity you want, and spend only a little bit of money.

One of the best places to travel alone to is Costa Rica. The people are very friendly, the beaches are gorgeous, the mountains are beautiful, and they have very nice accommodations, great food and a great climate. Although sometimes a single woman will draw an inquisitive look now and then.

Another city to visit is Prague in the Czech Republic because it's a very historical city. The old world architecture is awesome. The city is a treasure trove, with museums, music, art galleries and theaters. Some say Prague is best experienced if you're with a lover since it's very romantic, but it's ok to be alone.

Some say one of the best places to travel alone to is Ireland in the off-season. If you don't like the hustle and bustle of other vacationers, April to October, is best time to travel to go. Sign up for a Celtic Spirit Journey with international teacher and writer, Mara Freeman, it is enlightening!

Rome is one of the most beautiful places you can ever visit, full of history, arts, and culture. The best way to enjoy the Eternal City is to hire a local Official Tour Guide which will lead you through its hidden and captivating treasures.

If you're into adventure, then you must visit Alaska. There is something for everybody, the scenery is stunning, and the locals really try to make your visit special. Since Alaska is known for its population of bears, you don't want to get lost, so book a tour guide to show you the sights.

Until you have had a gondola ride on the Venice canal, you haven't ridden anything! Italy is one of the best places to travel alone because if you pick the gondola with a musician on it, you'll have the pleasure of some very fine music while you take in all the glorious sights of Venice.

For the shopping and cuisine alone, New York City is worth experiencing. The Broadway shows, visiting Times Square, the shopping and climbing to the top of the Empire State Building is well worth the money you'll spend there.

The most important thing to remember is to enjoy yourself, keep safe and buy a lot of souvenirs

Travel Photography Tips - Top 5 Photography Equipment That You Must Have in Your Travelling Bag

Have you been on a photo shoot travel adventure before? Or have you seen professional photographers in your town or while you're on vacation? They've always got a bulky bag with them which seems easy enough to lug around, isn't it? If you're a professional photographer in the making and you've been wondering what's in that bag or what you should have in your travel photography bag, then wonder no more! Here are the five most important things every photographer needs, in no particular order.

First, you need your camera of course! It would be pretty silly to have all the extra items without the main one, so always check that you've got your camera in your bag and it's well placed and not in any sort of position to get damaged. You need to make sure that your bag is well padded and you've got your travel camera with all its accessories such as the lenses, lens cover, sling strap and a cloth to keep the lenses clean.

Second, here come the batteries and the charger. Have a set of new batteries already in place in your travel digital camera and have an extra set ready, just in case you run out and don't have time to charge your batteries again.  It's always handy to have two or more sets of batteries because photo sessions can be quite consuming in means of time and power. If your travel camera has got a specific type of battery that requires that specific charger, then bring it along and charge up those batteries as and when you have time. If your camera uses regular AA batteries, then you can either buy rechargeable ones with a charger with you or you can just buy lots of alkaline batteries and keep them ready at hand.

Third, you need to protect yourself and your travel digital camera from bad weather so have a mini umbrella packed in your bag. This can come in handy when unexpected weather hits, but you still want to take those pictures. Sometimes, rain can help give you great pictures because water is a great effect to add on into your photography if you use the element right, but your travel camera and its parts might spoil when in contact with the rain, so have that umbrella with you.

Fourth, you always will need an extra memory card or two. Sometimes, you may get so caught up in taking pictures that you just don't think about the space available and you might not have the heart to delete old pictures to make room for new ones. So having an extra memory card will save you from having to endure the dilemma of having to pick the ones that have to go with so little time on your hands. You could always bring your laptop with you and upload the pictures as you go, but that would require packing more things and on travels like these, you should pack as light as you can.

Last but not least, tuck in some snack bars into your bag. Photography can be length and energy consuming so it'd be wise to have a few pick-me-ups at arm's length.
