Vietnam Markets

It is difficult to express a full feeling when visiting markets in different regions in Vietnam especially in rural areas. Almost all the people are poor and goods sold at the markets illustrate that poverty. In mountainous areas, markets are held one a week, ethnic people have to walk miles on rough roads bringing with them rice, cassava, potato, peanuts and brocade which are sold or exchanged for what they need. A market in mountainous area is not simply understood as selling or buying things, it is the occasion local people meet, exchange work experiences or just enjoy a locally delicious dish.

Markets in Northern provinces are different, they are held daily with various kinds of goods and often end in the noon on the same day. Almost all the people are farmers or small enterprise owners so agriculture tools, fertilizer, pesticide are their top interests. New clothes, family equipments are very important but they are not their first choices. Some foreigners visiting Vietnam said that these are magic markets with boom of natural sounds, lights, colors and flavors especially om Tet occasions. Many people recalled their childhood waiting at the gate for their mothers coming home from markets, they knew that their mothers would buy them some simple gifts or something to eat. Going to markets is still a big event to many children.

The Southern markets are somehow the same except for floating ones. These floating markets have made contribution to cultural exchange, waterway economic development. Boats are used as offices, shops or houses which are one of reasons for open-mindedness of Southern people.

Southern floating markets have still kept their typical features of a center of agricultural products and local fruits. Unlike shops, the most typical feature of goods display is to hang what it offers. Customers can easily decide what and where to buy. Almost goods are found at this market but agricultural products, fruits, rice, dried shrimp etc... which are produced or delivered from surrounding areas are mainly offered. Floating markets also the biggest store for export products in the region. Visiting a market is a way to understand more about Vietnam actual life and culture.

Unique Travel Gifts for Christmas

Coming up with unique Christmas gift ideas can be difficult. If you're buying for a traveler, here are a few unique travel gifts you should consider.

Travel Gifts

For some people, travel consists of hopping on a plane and moving around the country as part of a job. For others, it is an opportunity to get out and see exotic locations. Regardless of the type of travel, following are a list of unique travel gifts you can buy friend and family who travel.

1. Gladiator School - Watching the movie, Gladiator, each of us had a moment where we pictured ourselves on the floor of the coliseum. Well, now you can give someone the ultimate travel gift. Yep, Gladiator lessons in Rome, Italy. Located on the ancient Appian rode where Spartacus met his end, the Gladiator School offers a variety of lessons in the theory and actual combat techniques of the Gladiators. You will actually cross swords with others. Courses range from on day to four months.

2. Packing Compressors - Okay, these aren't the most exciting of gifts, but travelers love them. When you travel, space is at a premium. Packing compressors are zip bags that hold clothes. The bags have a pressure valve that removes the air and reduces the space taken up by the clothes by over 80 percent. This means you don't have to leave the wool sweaters and winter jackets at home. A tremendous utilitarian item. Eagle Creek is the leading brand in this category and you can spend between $10 and $30 depending on the size of the bag. This is a travel gift that will actually be used and cherished.

3. 1,000 Places To See Before You Die - This books makes a great gift for travelers. Locations and descriptions of unique places are included. Be warned, the person you give this gift to will end up sitting somewhere for hours reading it. In rare cases, they'll walk out the door and go directly to the airport. You can buy it at any bookstore.

4. Swiss Army Knife Pens - Everyone knows the value of Swiss Army Knives. Now you can buy it in the form of a pen. The tools pull out of the top of the pen just like the traditional knife. Expect to pay $30 for this travel gift.

5. Fly the Big Apple - If New York City is on the travel itinerary, then a helicopter tour over the Big Apple is a great gift and surprisingly inexpensive. Xperience Days is offering them for $65.

6. Nomad Travel Journals - A little self-promotion here. Nomad Travel Journals are compact writing journals that let travelers keep notes about their trips. Really great for creating a record of who was on the trip, things seen, people met, contact information such as email address, phone numbers and so on. As the years pass, you can read back through your travel journal to relive trips and laugh yourself silly over funny events you might otherwise forget. A tremendous gift for student travelers and backpackers. You can click the link at the bottom of this article to see the travel journals which cost $25 with case.

Shopping for the holidays can be stressful. If you're buying for a traveler, any of the above gifts will be a hit.

Health Based Tourism?

For decades, BC has marketed itself to the world as a beautiful destination where tourists could get their fill of mountains, scenery, and breath-taking adventure travel. But is this province on the road to a new reputation as "the best place" to "get well"? Health Minister, Kevin Falcon, says he wants to sell health services to "offshore" patients and earn "top dollar" for "our" health-care system. But critics say the only thing that will do is increase wait times for patients at home.

Top 10 Paying Careers

It is no secret that surgeons earn a hefty $189,590 annual salary on an average in the United States today. But the most unexpected news is the salaries of physicians assistants whose yearly average annual salary is an astonishing $63,490. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that their minimum qualification is a college degree and in addition a mandatory accreditation course. It is interesting to know which jobs are the top 10 paying ones in America. There are many surveys producing different results. Although there are some minor differences, most of them agree at least 7 out of 10 times.

The Best Paying Jobs in The United States

Interestingly, surgeons scored 7 points over CEOs, whose average annual salary was $134,960. The skill and the complex nature of the work contributes to their high salaries. That they carry a student loan of upto $100,000 is another factor that contributes.

The top professions on the list is followed by anesthesiologists with $181,420, Obstetricians and gynecologists earning $179,640, Internists, general $158,350 and the list goes on. In 9th place are dentists, whose reported annual average earning is $133,350. With the exception of the CEO who stands at the 8th position in the list, the top professions are all dominated by medical and healthcare professionals.

Personal financial advisors may find a place in the list of top ten earners, were it not for the huge variation in their earnings. An extremely brilliant personal financial advisor may earn up to $145,000 but the lower end is a paltry $28,330. The high salary fluctuation is because of its high growth potential coupled with high economic growth and the educational index required by the job.

Medical scientists earn an average of $100,000, which may be a measly sum, considering their educational backgrounds (PhD & doctoral degrees). But they precede podiatrists ($94,500), lawyers ($91,920), optometrists ($88,100) and computer and information systems managers whose salaries are around $83,890.

Surprisingly, so many other jobs and careers pay significantly higher salaries than positions in federal and state governments. For example, take the salaries of judges, which are positions of high significance in the society, which are at a level of $79,540. This can be understood by looking at the enterprising nature of corporations that hire these professionals.

Lets now take a look at the next top 10 paying careers in brief:

Once in a while, you might get the urge to escape from your busy and stressful life and plan on having the perfect getaway with family and friends. Consider a camping or fishing trip in travel trailers - it's a fun and rewarding recreational activity. Traveling in small trailers is very practical, as it saves you accommodation expenses.

Small travel trailers are designed to be lightweight and usually weigh barely 2,000 pounds and stand at 10-feet long. A small truck or just about any kind of family vehicle can easily tow them. In addition, the aerodynamic design that most of these trailers possess makes them very fuel efficient.

In transportation and temporary living accommodations for travel, recreation, and camping, small travel trailers are the best option to meet the level of comfort and convenience needed by small families or even older couples who are enjoying their retirement. You can still feel as if you are in the comforts of your home; these trailers also come equipped with the necessary amenities such as a small kitchen area, a bathroom, comfortable sleeping and dining areas, and even entertainment facilities.

Though simple and engineered to be lightweight, small trailers are also loaded with cooking facilities as well as a refrigerator, heating, air conditioning, a self-contained toilet, a shower, water tanks, and a separate electrical system. These trailers also feature slide-out rooms so you can enjoy additional space.

Whether for weekend camping trips or a cross-country sojourn, this kind of vehicle will surely go places easily as compared to its larger counterparts, as it can easily travel within tight campsites or constricted pathways.

If you are interested in owning one of these vehicles, you can visit and consult various manufacturers. But if you are not sure whether to opt for the hefty and more luxurious RVs, then you can select a smaller one in a price that won't disrupt your budget. They come in various styles to suit your taste and lifestyle.

Vacations For Teens - Five Affordable Destinations

Five Affordable World Travel Destinations

Locations That Offer More But Cost Less

So you want to travel the world but you have a tight budget? Are you tired of reading about everyone else's exotic adventures and ready to have some of your own? Have you always wanted to take an international vacation but thought you couldn't afford it? There are numerous travel destinations across the world that are both exciting and affordable. Five of them are described here to give you ideas and get you started planning your own getaway.

There are two ways to approach affordable vacations to distant destinations. Either you will save money getting there or the savings will occur once you arrive at your selected spot. If you want the trip there to be affordable, many travel consolidators recommend choosing well-known destinations that are served by numerous airlines and receive millions of travelers each year. The competition for customers usually drives costs down for everything from lodging to tour packages. Airfares between major hubs tend to be more affordable and there are often plenty of discounts and last minute travel deals.

London

In Europe, London is a top pick for affordable vacation destinations, for these exact reasons. Not only do you have more flights to choose from, they are cheaper than if you flew to a more remote location. On average, staying in London may be a bit more expensive than other European destinations, but the seemingly endless choices in hotels, restaurants, transportation, tours, and other travel essentials gives travels opportunities to mold their vacation to fit their budgets. And you can use London as your home base to set out on day trips to other more exotic locations or buy a Eurorail pass and see those more remote countries without the expense of flying there.

Playa del Carmen, Mexico

This theory also works well for traveling in the Caribbean. Belize is an appealing destination, with wonderful Caribbean beaches and a lush tropic setting, but since it has only recently emerged as a popular travel destination, it is more expensive than Cancun, Jamaica or other well-traveled locations along the Mayan Riviera. With fewer flights, getting there is more expensive, and there are few moderate lodging options. Development of larger luxury resorts have begun to boom, but the only real alternative for those on a budget is staying in local facilities that may be hard to locate from home and may be more rustic than most travelers are willing to try.

Although there are many options for affordable vacations in the Caribbean, an excellent pick is Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Accessible via flights to Cancun, which are often some of the cheapest in the region, Playa is just a half hour away. It is filled with a multitude of lodging choices, from expansive luxury resorts on the ocean to quaint but clean hotels downtown. From Playa, travelers can branch out and visit Tulum and other locations on the Mayan Riviera or take the ferry across to the island of Cozumel where snorkeling is prime and the attractions are many.

For Asian destinations, travelers often do better to focus on saving money once they get to their destination. Depending on your country of origin, getting to just about any spot in Asia is going to be a sizable chunk of your travel budget. The difference will come from the cost of lodging, food, entertainment and other travel expenditures once you arrive. By choosing destinations where you get the most for your money, you can save a great deal on your international vacation. A drink or dinner in Tokyo will costs you many times more than what it would in Saigon. The key here is to go where you dollars buy you more and where the local cost of living is low.

Tioman Island

An affordable yet exotic choice for Asia is Malaysia and specifically Tioman Island, knows as the mythical 'Bali Hai' from the film 'South Pacific.' Tioman Island is located at the southern end of the east coast of Malaysia on the South China Sea. It's sandy beaches, bordered by lush jungles and stunning mountains make it a relaxing yet intriguing destination, ideal for sun lovers, snorkelers and divers. The island also has many villages for exploring and shopping. English is widely spoken and the rates are amazingly affordable, with a two night lodging package for a suite at a lovely oceanside resort averaging around 100 U.S. dollars. Typically visitors reach the island via the speed ferry from the mainland. Although the trip can take over two hours, it is enjoyable and provides opportunities for dolphin watching along the way.

Buenos Aires

South American also has many destinations that are affordable because of the savings once you arrive. Locales like Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, the areas top destination, are coming down in price but are still more expensive than cities such as Buenos Aires in Argentina, where the rates are lower and the U.S. dollar goes further.

A huge metropolis that is more European than South American, the city has much to offer including cultural events, thriving nightlife, shopping, local sports, and a host of tours and excursions. La Boca, with its street performers, shops, and unique architecture is a big tourist draw. The large number of choices for lodging, restaurants, and activities provides opportunities for budget travel and savings. Airfare to the city is relatively reasonable for an international destination, with discount fares from the U.S. averaging around $500 round trip. Buenos Aires might not be one of the most exotic or inspiring destinations in South America, but it is a city that everyone should see at least once, and with some of the most affordable rates and fares around, it makes the list as a top South American destination.

Las Vegas

The list would not be complete without a North American destination, and the champ of all affordable locales is Las Vegas. It too is a city that should be seen at least once, and many world travelers return again and again for the gaming, art, shows and people watching that just can't be found anywhere else. Close enough to other top U.S. attractions like the Grand Canyon, Vegas provides other options for those who have had their fill of casinos.

The city has long been known for its cheap vacation packages with hotels and resorts that offer discount rates for rooms, meals and entertainment in hopes of attracting people to their gaming tables. Airfare rates into Vegas are some of the most reasonable in the United States, no matter the origination destination. And with more than 100,000 hotel rooms to choose from, there is sure to be a lodging choice that fits your budget.

The world provides hundreds of affordable travel destinations. With all the options available, there is no excuse to put off that life-long desire to travel to exotic places at the far ends of the earth. Destinations can be researched on the Internet or your travel consolidator can make recommendations and help with locating discount flights and hotel deals that fit your budget. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and explore the world.

Caribbean Beach Vacations - Top 10 Destinations

Looking for the best Caribbean beach vacation? Hey, I love sharing the highlights of all the places I visit and learn about. Below you'll discover the top 10 hot spots for a great beach vacation with examples of what's special about each of them. Then you can decide which one you think would be the best beach vacation in the Caribbean for your trip!

Aruba:

This place is for those that like a non-stop vacation with lots of restaurants, bars casinos. The beaches are gorgeous, the water is wonderful and it hardly ever rains. The scuba diving is awesome with great opportunities for photography. The fishing is pretty good too.

Barbados:

Your troubles will simply wash away in the soft island serenity of this great beach vacation destination. Brighton Beach is a great place to stay for your Caribbean beach vacation and the most popular here. If you want a little more privacy you can get secluded villas around the island. Taking that horseback ride on the beach will feel as if you're in a movie and I would highly recommend trying it. Probably my second favorite beach vacation overall.

Turks and Caicos Islands:

Like long beach walks? At 12 miles long, Grace Bay is simply a phenomenal stretch of soft white sand with smaller luxury resorts, spas and great restaurants perfect for a beach honeymoon vacation. And the water color is the most vibrant translucent turquoise... I love it! Seems that many movie stars and rock stars like it too with several owning homes and vacationing here on some of the 8 secluded islands all with fantastic beaches. Turks & Caicos has long been a diver's paradise with great deep-sea and bone fishing too! Taking the kids? Well, Beaches Resort consistently gets high marks as one of the world's best family beach vacation spots.

Bahamas:

Technically not in the Caribbean, but with so many beautiful beaches I had to add it to the best beach vacation list... it's close enough. Paradise Island is great fun especially swimming with the dolphins, which is an experience of a lifetime. The diving here is fantastic because of the calm waters and enjoying the nightlife is all kinds of fun. For a secluded romantic get-a-way try the pink sand beach on Harbor Island.

British Virgin Islands & U.S. Virgin Islands:

Both make great beach vacations, especially for island hopping. Having a chance to easily enjoy not 1, 2, but potentially 3 islands or more each with it's own charm make for one of the best beach vacation spots. Trunk Bay on St. John is particularly gorgeous and popular with calm waters and an underwater snorkeling "trail."

Cayman Islands:

A very entertaining destination with odd things like feeding iguanas grapes while dining at a restaurant. Definitely worth it for the pictures! Three islands in all, its another great place to island hop and enjoy waterfall climbing, extensive shark diving, and swimming with the stingrays and shopping, shopping, shopping.

Dominican Republic:

Here is a place you can go for a cheap beach vacation and still enjoy all the splendid beauty of a Caribbean island. Have a great time scuba diving, swimming with dolphins, deep sea fishing and hiking. Fabulous beaches too!

Anguilla:

A fun Caribbean beach vacation to tell your friends about. It's the only area known in the Caribbean to have beautiful white sandy beaches deserted during peak season, which makes this a great place for couples to enjoy. Especially with activities that include windsurfing, scuba diving, and snorkeling. Oh, and if you love seafood, all I can say is, "The best chefs in the Caribbean!"

St. Lucia:

A honeymooners delight. Think jazz music, small island, secluded and intimate and that is St. Lucia. Beautiful beaches, lush tropical foliage, scenic mountains, spectacular sunsets and typically many great all-inclusive packages are offered. It all makes for a very seductive beach honeymoon vacation.

Hey, I could add a couple more since the Caribbean is full of beautiful and interesting places. Some may offer a little better snorkeling or fishing, larger or smaller hotels, more seclusion or more nightlife, but all are wonderful in their own way. You really can't go wrong with these when planning and dreaming of your next Caribbean beach vacation!

MTV Spring Break Parties in Acapulco Mexico in 2010

With past locations being Panama City Beach in Florida and Cancun, Mexico, MTV Spring Break is always at the hottest spot for fun. Every year they bring their camera crews to an exotic location during Spring Break and film on location. This year, in 2010 they will be filming in Acapulco, Mexico. This is a fun time, even if you are just watching for the couch in your living room.

Thousands of teens are recorded dancing to top bands and singers that come down for concerts. It is an event that is looked forward to every year. MTV Spring Break is a much anticipated event that happens every year for college students that are looking to have a great time.

MTV pulls out all of the stops each year. They offer fun parties, concerts, dancing, contests and more. College students from all over the world come to MTV's Spring Break each year and have a great time. If you are thinking about attending in 2010 then you need to make your arrangements now. It get filled up quickly.

Since the beach front that they will be filming at is stretched with many hotels, there will be plenty of rooms for college students to stay. MTV will be staying in the Playa Suites hotel on the north side of the beach.

Those that are planning on attending can join one of the many scheduled concerts at the may hotels in the area. The major hotels will be having concerts and dancing of their own. With such great weather during this time of year, it will be a great time to party. The temperature is usually between seventy and eighty five degrees.

If you plan on being one of the thousands of college students attending this year's MTV Spring Break then you will need to be sure that you are careful about the local water. It is advised to drink from bottled water. This is the best way to avoid issues. Stomach problems seem to be an issue otherwise which will make the entire vacation miserable. It is also advised to be careful where you eat food. When your body is not used to the water and food in Acapulco, your stomach can bear the brunt of it. It is not always pretty.

When you go, be sure to attend the many nightclubs in the area. There are some great clubs that are planning on having some great concerts and dancing. Most do not have a closing time so you can party 24 hours if you wish. One of the most fun is the Palladium. It contains a one hundred sixty foot long wall of glass overlooking the entire beach and bay area. It is a wonderful way to see the area.

The entire week is sure to be a blast if you make sure that you plan ahead of time. Be sure to call ahead to reserve a room so that you do not miss out. Rooms book quite quickly. It is sure to be the greatest week of the year so be sure not to miss it. 2010 promises to be a great year for MTV. Be sure to check it out in person or online.

The Top Ten Best Tourist Spots in Italy

Italy is one of the most popular places to visit in the world. It's a favorite of millions of tourists worldwide. And who can blame them? Nobody can resist the charms of Italy's culture and architecture. This boot-shaped country was, after all, the home of the Legendary Romans and the Heroes of the Renaissance. Indeed, if you're going to go to Italy, be prepared to have your breathe taken away by the sheer beauty of the place.

1.) The Coliseum

No other civilization in the world could top the Romans in terms of strength and power, and indeed, the Romans practically conquered the world. And for their entertainment, the Romans had the world. They had the Coliseum where the prizes of their conquests, lions and other exotic animals were made to battle with the gladiators. Indeed, if you stand within the walls of this gigantic complex, you can almost feel the spirit of celebration that once rang through the place.

2.) Piazza Campidoglio

The Piazza Campidoglio, or the Capitoline Hill, was the seat of power of the Ancient Romans. And up until today, it still stands as Italy's center of politics. It holds the famous statue of Castor and Pollux and various structures designed by the great Michaelangelo himself like the double staircase and other buildings.

3.) The Roman Forums

Also, there's nothing more exhilarating than to visit the place where democracy was born. The Roman Forums, where the Roman senate once held their heated debates discussing everything from large-scale wars to petty squabbles, are also popular tourist attractions. Here, you can find the Forum of Caesar and the Forum of Trajan, and there's also the Palatine Hill and all the other temples dedicated to the various gods and goddesses of the ancient Romans.

4.) The Pantheon

The Pantheon is one of the best places that you can visit in Rome. It's teeming with beautiful architecture, beautiful sculptures, and beautiful statues. This magnificent building is also the home of the grave of the famous painter, Raphael.

5.) The Trevi Fountain

This world renowned fountain is famous for its sheer beauty and size, and it features several sculptures, including one of Neptune coming out from underwater, riding on a sea shell that's drawn by two horses with wings. It's featured in Dan Brown's famous novel, the Da Vinci Code. Also, toss a coin into it while facing away from it and it is said that you will be guaranteed a return to the great city.

6.) The Grand Canal in Venice

There's nothing more Romantic than going on a boat ride through the famous canals of the floating city of Venice. These quixotic canals are featured in various movies and are a favorite of newlyweds all over the world. It's also a great way to take in all the sights of the beautiful city.

7.) The Sistine Chapel

The Vatican, though it's considered as an independent country in itself, is still found in the heart of Italy. And, there, you'll find the great Sistine Chapel where extraordinary pieces of art can be found. There, you'll see the works of Michelangelo and Botticelli.

8.) St. Peter's Basilica

Also, if you're a fan of great architecture, you will have to see the famous St. Peter's Basilica. It's the largest Catholic Church in the whole world, and it's simply teeming with beautiful paintings, frescoes, and statues. You can also see this Basilica's famous dome which is literally filled with works of art.

Travel Scams And The Unsuspecting Traveler

Fraudulent travel promotions and offers consistently make it to the top of the list of complaints that the FTC, or Federal Trade Commission, receives every year. These scams are relatively low cost to run, but they lead to expensive mistakes and disappointments for numerous consumers or would be travelers.

Unsolicited travel offers arrive at many homes and businesses every day. The offers arrive by telephone, e-mail, snail mail, and fax. Generally, the offers are fraudulent travel promotions sent or called by unscrupulous travel promoters.

Disguised to look familiar and similar to companies that the consumer might have contact with or knowledge of, the fraudulent offers look legitimate at first glance. Faxes, letters, and e-mails with letterheads designed to look similar to the company the individual is working for further encourage the consumer into thinking the offer is legitimate.

The travel packages are enticing enough to encourage people to act quickly before they have time to think about it or talk to others about it. Anxious to take advantage of the good deal, people often respond immediately. This is exactly what the phony promoter of the travel package wants.

Vacations are offered with deluxe accommodations that include air conditioning and king size beds, free meals, special outings, such as cruises or casino trips, free spa packages, and other assorted perks. Consumers are enticed to place a deposit to hold the offer and its wonderful components. A full refund is offered in the event that they cancel; but then, they are told the deposit is non-refundable. Customers have unwittingly paid for the purchase in full, but never receive the tickets or paperwork for the trip.

The best way to avoid a travel scam is to follow a few simple rules. Consumers need to know what signs to look for to discern the legitimacy of the offer. Likewise, consumers need to follow their instinct and realize that if it looks and sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. People are in the business of making money. If it appears that they are giving the trip away, then how is the company making any money? Look at the following tips and use them to guide you when planning a vacation.

How To Avoid A Travel Scam

Always deal with a reputable company. Select a company that you, or someone you know, have had personal contact with before. Ask for the company's full name, address, and phone number.

Contact the Better Business Bureau where you live and where the company is from. If there is a history of complaints, steer clear.

Ask to receive the details of the trip in writing prior to payment. If the company refuses, then do not pay.

Verify your reservations and the level of accommodations by acquiring the telephone number and calling to make a few inquiries.

Ask for specifics. If the agent uses the word "luxury," ask exactly what that means. One person's idea of luxury may simply be a soft bed and a full bathroom, while most vacationers are probably thinking hot tub, king size bed, cable television, etc.

Use a credit card to make your purchase. If the vacation package does not meet your expectations, you may be able to dispute the charges.

Never deal with a company whose representative uses high-pressure tactics. For example, if you don't sign on now, it won't be available later.

Don't believe something that seems too good to be true. If the trip is advertised at well below market cost, then it simply isn't legitimate.

Never deal with a company that insists on verifying your identification with additional credit card and social security numbers.

Avoid any offers for fantastic vacations that require overnight service for payment.

Avoid responding to unsolicited offers for vacations. Reputable companies can rely on word of mouth to acquire business.

How Travel Scams Rack Up The Price

Hidden fees that are not revealed until after the consumer commits with a payment. Suddenly, extra fees are added to the cost for incidentals and upgrades that were not mentioned previously.

Hidden fees that do not materialize until the traveler arrives at the destination. Once the customer arrives at the destination, the desk clerk might notify them of additional charges that were not previously mentioned.

How Travel Scams Deceive

Some of the offer is unavailable to the traveler until after they attend a special presentation. Many times these presentations involve sitting through lengthy timeshare overviews and sales pitches.

Refunds are promised for cancellations, but refunds are rarely processed.

Many details are often left out of the sales pitch.

Sometimes, the unscrupulous travel marketer will actually lie about the actual components of the offer in an attempt to deceive customers and entice them into signing up for the vacation package.

Travel marketers use vocabulary that hints at something, but never comes right out and says it. For example, "being selected to receive a trip" only means that you will be given the opportunity to pay for the trip. Moreover, words such as blackout dates and subject to availability will create loopholes that lead to the unavailability of the vacation package that the consumer has paid for in advance.

In most cases, using a reputable travel agent, who has a good record with the Better Business Bureau and some evidence of being around for a while, is the best way to go to schedule a vacation. When in doubt, ask questions.

Booking Travel Online Vs Travel Agents

This topic is a hot one. My previous job was as a travel consultant for one of the largest travel consulting agencies in the world and I have traveled to over 22 countries in the past 8 years, and have booked travel using every method possible.

The truth is, it really depends on how much time and effort you are willing to put into planning your trip. Planning and purchasing something as simple as a round trip flight online could not be easier and I highly recommend it to save money and time. It requires very little information and thought. Travel agencies charge for their service, and that charge could be between $20.00 - $200.00, depending on the flight and destination. As well, there is nothing that the travel agent can provide for you that the internet cannot.

If you are planning a larger trip, with multiple destinations, internal flights or tourist attractions, booking online could be a bit more work. Having said that, it is still not that hard. It is just a matter of doing your research. If you are planning a trip to Spain and are planning to travel on to Italy by boat afterwards you would simply have to search the information on busses or trains for your overland travel in Spain, and the ferry information for your boat to Italy. Sometimes you are able to pre-purchase your internal travel or tourist attraction tickets online, sometimes you can take care of it when you arrive at the location.

However, if the research is something that you do not have time for, or you feel a bit more secure having your trip planned by someone who does this as a profession, a travel agent may be the answer for you. They have the ability use a plethora of travel resources and their experienced co-workers, but this will come at an extra cost for their service.

Here is an example of a fairly large trip I planned as a travel agent. Two clients of mine wanted to travel to the UK for 3 weeks. They asked me to plan everything from international and domestic flights to the hotels and travel insurance. By the time that this entire trip was booked and paid for, the clients ended up paying roughly $500.00 more than they would have online. As a travel agent in this particular company, as with many companies, you are expected to mark your products up, and are penalized for not doing so. The clients did not see this mark up as it was hidden in the grand total.

Everything that I planned and booked for these clients could have been booked online. As a travel agent I had access to a few cheaper hotels than they would have found online, but as a travel agent, I was expected to mark them up! The security of having them reserved and paid for when they arrived was worth it to these senior citizen travelers. Travel agents are not rip off artists, but it is part of their job to "mark it up".

Ireland - Top 10 Links Golf Courses Reviewed by a Ordinary Golfer

Links golf is played on the natural terrain of seaside dunes and land banks and requires different playing techniques than when playing on the more common parkland course. Ireland has the highest ratio of links courses in the world per head of population, even more than the "home of golf" that is Scotland. Links golf introduces more of the element of chance into the game rather than the "target" golf you find on some manicured parkland courses. Even a slight breeze can utterly transform a links course from a benign creature to a monster.

Arguments will always abound as to the best golf course in any country or region and the matter is by nature subjective. Every year dozens of well known magazines that review golf courses to a broad range of criteria course publish their Top 100 or a Top 10 links and parkland courses in a particular country or region. They review links and parkland courses throughout the country but sometimes you wonder with what eyes are they are they looking at these courses.

Is their view that of the expert low single-figure handicap amateur or even the tour professional? Sometimes I would query the terms of reference that these reviews are based upon. I feel lack of consideration is given to what might make a great golf course from the point of view of players with handicaps from, say 10 to 24. An interesting statistic is that 95% of the world's amateur golfers have a handicap of 15 or over and only 1% of the golfing population of the world have single-figure handicaps. Any professional golf course reviewer is by nature a fairly handy golfer and being so can perhaps make it difficult for them to view the course from the higher handicapper's perspective. That is not to say that they don't try - I have no doubt they do - but if you play of a handicap of 4, you don't encounter the obstacles that a 20 handicapper will come across.

As a hacker playing off 12 with a love of links golf in particular, the following are my Top 10 Irish links courses. It may not necessarily agree with the glossy magazine reviewers but they reflect my own experiences and I think any golfer of any handicap low or high will find these fantastic courses. I did not rate courses I haven't played which may explain some obvious omissions compared to a professional reviewer list. But here goes anyway, and let the arguments begin!

1. BALLYBUNION (Old Course), Ballybunion, Co. Kerry

2. PORTMARNOCK, Portmarnock, Co. Dublin

3. ROYAL COUNTY DOWN, Newcastle, Co. Down

4. THE EUROPEAN CLUB, Brittas, Co. Wicklow

5. DOONBEG, Doonbeg, Kilrush, Co. Clare

6. BALLYLIFFIN, Ballyliffin, Buncrana, Co. Donegal

7. ROYAL DUBLIN, Dollymount, Clontarf, Dublin 5

8. THE ISLAND, Corballis, Donabate Co. Dublin.

9. DONEGAL (MURVAGH) Murvagh Co. Donegal

10. COUNTY LOUTH (BALTRAY) Baltray, Drogheda, Co. Louth

Look at maps and plan your route. There are many great online maps that do a HYBRID map view showing real streets and routes with satalite images. Knowing the location, and how it looks, by viewing it from space is both cool and very helpful, so you won't get lost.
Research the roads you'll take. You'll especially want to know if you'll be traveling through areas of major road construction. The maps mentioned above are a little dated. Some new roads and maps will not have current, realtime data, bring physical maps, like ones you could buy from AAA along.
Make estimates of travel times along the route, so you'll have an idea when you'll be at certain points on your trip. This will help you to plan rest and meal stops. It will also help you plan to avoid traveling through a major city or area of road construction during rush hour.
Get the car checked, especially the filters, belts, fluid levels and have the oil changed. Don't wait until the last minute, it may take time to get an appointment and parts may need to be ordered. You also want some time to drive around town and make sure that whatever they fixed stays fixed. If you vehicle is 'mission critical' and could die at any moment, DON'T take it with you, borrow a friends car instead.
Check the condition of your wiper blades, both front and back windows.
Check the operation of your turn signals, brake lights as well as the high and low beams. Bring some extra fuses along.
Examine the tread on your tires. Consider mountain driving in winter conditinos on snowy peaks. Make sure you have chains or 4x4 traction for icey roads, out of season. Or try a different route.
Make sure your car is prepared for the weather it will encounter on your trip. You might need more antifreeze or need to recharged air-conditioning when you go through the desert.
Today, many cars have fancy wheels instead of hubcaps. These wheels usually have a lock to prevent them from being stolen. If you have a car with wheel locks, make sure you know where the key is stored (often with the jack). Otherwise, a flat tire will become a major problem since you won't be able to get the wheel off the car.
Get your car cleaned. You'll feel better in a clean car.
Pack an emergency kit in your car. Include motion sickness medication if anyone in your group suffers from it. Remove any items from the car that you won't need on your trip. Bring some blankets.
Prepare some on road entertainment for your trip. Include games and CDs of music and/or audio books. Portable DVD players are really inexpensive and help pass the time in dead spots where where is nothing new to see.
Check your plates, registration and insurance information to make sure they are all valid. Be sure to place your insurance company's emergency contact number in your car.
Check with all the drivers in your party to make sure their driver's licenses haven't expired.
Check your insurance for expiration dates and coverage for your automobile.
Arrange for someone to start your other car, if you leave one home, during very cold or very hot weather.
Fill the car with gas before you pack the car so all the fumes won't bother your passengers. Check the fluid levels and tire pressure, your tire pressure will affect the ride and gas mileage you get on your trip.
Pack the car inside the garage, with the door down, so people driving by won't find out you're leaving.

Overall, enjoy the road trip. It's not going to be as crazy as Clark W Grizwold's family vacation experiences, and if it is, make sure you video it and put it up on You Tube!

Spring Break 2010 - Panama City Beach

With a population of about 40,000, Panama City Beach is a small city on northwest Florida's panhandle. It is a popular tourist destination right on St. Andrews Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

The city's official web site boasts that Panama City Beach is attractive for raising a family, which is true about eleven months a year. The web site also boasts that the city is an exciting tourist destination year-round, which is true, too.

But the city is most well-known for one thing: Spring Break.

College students from all over Canada and the U. S. Make their way to Panama City Beach each spring to party with other like-minded people. It's a good place to party and forget about the scrutiny of school and exams. To wit, for the past two years, Panama City Beach has hosted MTV's Spring Break. And students will again have another chance to party there in 2010.

Hotels and motels line up to lure these partygoers to stay at their place. Because of this, you should reserve your rooms early - even a year in advance is recommended. Everywhere will fill up quickly.

During the day, there is plenty to do in Panama City Beach Spring Break. For sure, there are the endless beaches. Beautiful sandy beaches for swimming, soaking up rays, playing Frisbee or beach soccer, and watching all the other partiers having a blast. While the public beaches are the most popular, they get very crowded during this time. However, don't worry, there is always St. Andrews State Park, which also has nice beaches. There is a small fee to enter the park, but it might be worthwhile to avoid the crowds.

Nearby the main strip is a popular water park called Shipwreck Island. A ticket to get in is about $30 or so. You'll need more dough, however, if you want to eat or drink inside because coolers and food from outside are forbidden. Regardless of age, though, there are all kinds of rides for everyone to enjoy.

For those who want to party at night, luck is on your side. There are many bars, restaurants, and nightclubs available.Maybe the best-known nightclub is Club La Vela, purported to be the largest nightclub in America. The club is several stories and houses multiple themed rooms where parties never slow down. ther well-known party spots include Spinnaker and Hammerhead Fred's. Then there's the Boardwalk Beach Resort, situated right on the beach. It hosts Spring Break concerts and themed contests all day every day and it might be the place for you to see and be seen.

There is also plenty of shopping, if that's your thing. There are malls aplenty, as well as more souvenir shops than you can count. A popular local attraction is Alvin's Magic Mountain Mall. It resembles a cave and everything from beachwear to cheap souvenirs can be found there. As it's Florida, an alligator display is quite the attraction, as well.

Spring Break 2010 in Panama City Beach starts for some as early as mid February. The majority of students will enjoy their break throughout March with the two busiest weeks starting March 6th.

Locals get their small city back around April 10 of next year, when MTV Spring Break officially ends.

5 Tips For World Cup 2010 Visitors in South Africa

As the South African Nation prepares for World Cup 2010, an estimated of 500,000 soccer fans from around the world are looking for World Cup Accommodation in the nine different cities that are hosting World Cup Matches. A majority of which are visiting South Africa for the first time. And like many visitors to foreign countries, there are many safety precautions one should take before and during their visit. It's well known that the crime rate is relatively high in South Africa. But this shouldn't dissuade you from visiting a beautiful country that is both rich in culture and wildlife. Common sense and a little preparation will ensure a safe and fun filled trip. So for the weary traveler, I present to you 5 tips for visiting South Africa for the World Cup. This list is in no particular order.

1. Do your research

Before you arrive to your city destination, you should do some research of the surrounding area for your place of accommodation. Research nearby restaurants, parks, stores, bus routes etc. and their locations so you are able to plan out your daily activities and how to get to them. Also, you should speak to the people you will be staying with about where the safer areas of the neighborhood are. This way, you aren't spending your days aimlessly venturing out in an unfamiliar city, putting yourself at risk of getting lost or ending up in a bad neighborhood.

2. Travel in groups

Avoid traveling alone. It is less likely that you will be become a victim to a crime if you are traveling with another person or in a group. If you must travel alone, make sure you are visiting areas of the city that have a lot of foot traffic.

3. Keep photocopies of important documentation

You should make sure you have photocopies of your passports, ID, and credit cards. This will speed the process of getting documents replaced should they go missing.

4. Try staying in a locals home

If you really want a sense for life in South Africa and want the inside scoop for where to go and what to do, stay with a local. There are a few websites that give you a great selection of places to stay, like iStopOver.

5. Don't feed the animals

South Africa is known for their wild life and abundance of game reserves. If you are planning to venture out of urban areas, you are bound to come across some wild life. Although it's hard to resist the temptation of getting up close and personal with them, it would be strongly advised to keep a safe distance as South Africa contains a lot of dangerous wildlife. Lion cubs may look cute and cuddly but there is surely a hungry mother looking for lunch not far away.

This list is by no means exhaustive and definitely not limited to these 5 tips. So I strongly suggest readers to post their own suggestions!
